How do I get rid of .doc extensions so that I do not have to retype in a name
of a file without having to worry about that extension name?

What I think you mean is ..

Go into My Computer
Select Tools > Folder Options > View tab
In the list of Advanced Settings, check "Hide extensions of known file
types"
Click OK and close My Computer

Thanks Tony, but it did not get rid of the ".doc" name for every file I have.
I know that I can get rid of the "name" of the extension, but that advice did
not work. The only question is ...you stated "under the advanced settings ...
I did not find that group, but I did uncheck the "hide extension" as you
recommended. Those suckers are still there!

Any other suggestions?

Thansk.
