how do i get word 2000 docs off back up in word 2003

I am Trying to get my data from a cd rom onto my new pc. It was created in
office 2000(windows 98) now i have XP office 2003 and i cannot open the files
could someone please assist me?

You will not be able to open the files directly from the CD. Have you copied
them to the HD first? They'll be tagged as Read Only (because they came from
a CD), so you'll have to select them in Windows Explorer, right-click,
select Properties, and remove the check for Read Only.
