How do I know if I have a Valid copy of Office XP?

I was given a shrinkwrapped copy of Office XP Version 2002 Small Business
Edition.

It looks like it came with a new computer. The person I recieved it from
claims they aren't using Office XP, that they have purchased and installed
Office 2003.

So, I have the media for Office XP, with a 25 digit product key on the back.

Is there somewhere I can go on Microsoft's website to find out if this
product key has been registered?

I would hate to go through the trouble of installing this product only to
find out that the product has already been registered!
