how do I limit the daily effort for a specific task

I need to reserve 40% of my time for the task "Project Management",
preferably . I'm using a standard calendar for the project and myself.

If I assign the resource "Me[40%]" to the task, Project spreads the task,
but doesn't assign any other tasks to me until <after> the "Project
Management" task is finished. Effectively, it's created a new calendar for
me that only allows 40% of my time to be allocated ** to the total project **

I want to be able to spend 3.2 hours each day on PM, with the remaining 4.8
(standard calendar) allocated to any other tasks in the project.

Hi Jbossert,

You probably need to set the task type and take off "effort driven". Try
setting task type to 'Fixed Duration' and unticking the effort driven box.
This will assume you have a task of fixed duration which will not change as
more or less resources are assigned to it. Then assigning yourself as .4
unit to one task and .6 unit to the remaining task Project will then allocate
the work to each task. It will also allow both tasks to be carried out
concurrently.

Hope this is of some help

I'd suggest creating a hammock task running from project start to project
end for the managment task. Your maximum allocation is 100%. Assign
yourself 40% to the managment task. That leaves a total of 60% available of
other things. IF you go over that for the other tasks, resource leveling
will space them out. But be careful. Leveling does not adjust assignment
levels, only assignment schedules, and if you assign yourself to any one
task at anything over 60%, there's no way to resolve the overallocation
except by shifting that task to the end of the project. And since that
would extend the hammock task, you'll fall into a loop that'll push the
project end all the way to 2049.
