How do I modify the bottom of the page in Project?

I can't seem to figure out how to modify the portion of the page at the
bottom that contains the "visual aids" for the task bar, milestone, external
tasks etc. I would like to input information to the right of that embedded
table.

I assume you mean the footer?

Select File, Page Setup and edit the footer. The legend for the Gantt chart
can be turned of in the Legend Tab

Yes and no...

Ideally, I would like to be able to modify the information that is shown to
the right of the legend. For example, if you were to click on the legend tab
and then enter an "a" in the left section, a "b" in the center section and a
"c" in the right section, the bottom of your sheet would read "a b c" on
the bottom left of the page, and the area to the right of "a b c" would
show the bar types. I want to be able to modify the area that contains the
bar types...

Hi,

Select Format, Bar Styles. Experiment with editing that data. Project uses
it for the Legend. All capability to edit the legend is here. Delete a bar
style to remove it from the legend.

In fact it is not necessary to delete bars not to be shown in the
legend.
If the first character of a bar name is an asterisk (*) that bar will
not be listed in the legend.
