How do I name a page?

J

Jennifer

In the past, every time I write something in the space for the title, the
"untitled page" was replaced with a new title. It is not doing that now. How
do I fix it?

It should still be. What happens if you click away to another page? What
does the title of the page say? Is it a number or does it still say
"Untitled"?

If I click away to another page, it still says "Untitled". Even if I close
and open OneNote, it is the same.

The title box still contains the text that I entered but the tab does not
contain the same text.

Hmmm....are you typing or using a pen? Are you sure you're using the
Title box and not another text box in the header?

The title box still contains the text that I entered but the tab does not
contain the same text.

I am using a pen and I am sure that I am using the Title box and not another
text box in the header. The Title box is the only box that shows in the
header. For my first 27 pages I have been able to write my title in the Title
box and it shows on the tab. On the 28th page it stopped doing it. As far as
I know, I did not do anything different from one page to another.

Just as a test - try typing the title in the box and see if it works.

You're actually running the Tablet PC OS? On a Tablet PC?

If so, does handwriting recognition work otherwise? Try to write
something on the body of a page, and then try to convert it. Does it
work?

J

Jennifer

I tried clicking in the text box first, then carefully wrote my title in it,
but it doesn't work. I know the OS recognizes my handwriting because I have
been replying in pen. I use the pen more often than the keyboard. I can
convert my handwriting to text and it doesn't have a problem reading it, but
I want my title in my handwriting instead of text.

If you're on a Tablet PC, you may want to go into Control Panel/Regional and
Language Settings/Languages tab/Details button. At the top of the new
Advanced tab, make sure there is a check mark in the Compatibility
Configuration section in the box left of "Extend support of advanced text
services to all programs."

Have you restarted your system, closing OneNote since then? If it doesn't
work after a restart, you might try doing a Detect and Repair off the
OneNote Help drop-down menu.

I have restarted my system several times. I always close everything before I
leave the computer for an extended period of time. I did do a Detect and
Repair and it said: "Installation Error: File not Found. A required
installation file SKU1A1.CAB could not be found." It's looking for the
Original Installation Source but I do not know what that would be because it
came with the computer when I bought it.

Thanks for the explanation, Jennifer. This may not the be same computer as
you have, but the following Knowledge Base article lists where the "normal"
on-hard drive install is located:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875556 See if the
scenario and path described fits your situation. You can "browse" in
Windows Explorer to locate the directory to make sure it is there, then
direct the path of the Detect/Repair to that location when it asks.

I am having the similar problem as Jennifer stated above but mine started
when I had to switch machines (all of my information was stored on the
server). Now when I handwrite a title in the box it doesn't recognize in the
title pane and leaves "untitled" there. I have detect and repair and nothing
was found unlike Jennifer. So any help would be greatly appreciated becuase
it is getting frustrating.

What happens if you type the title?

I wish I can put screen shots in here...

I can type the title using a keyboard but it seems that OneNote is not
recognizing that there is a handwriting in the area or in the text box that
makes up the title. It is just weird that all of a sudden it doesn't work.
I can write in the title box and nothing will register.
