How do I over extend either a task or resource in Project 2007

I want to extend resources or tasks when linking to excel. I have a master
plan and want to track resource overallocation.

Hi John,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'm not sure why you want to link to Excel (particularly when such links are
somewhat fragile) or how you are linking. Resource overallocation is easily
tracked in Project. What do you mean by "extend resources or tasks"? Which
version of Project are you using?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Mike
Thanks for the response.

I am building a Project Office for an IT group and I want to track all
projects at the highest level in MS project 2007. I worked out the answer by
using non scheduling fields (i.e. start1.. etc) I have a Resource Pool and I
have a master plan which takes the excel file and links special from project
to excel. This allows me to link to the details of each project. I am
training the group to use project which will remove this problem and I can
get back to actually tracking the tasks.

Thanks I agree its a pain which is why I suggest the project office
needs to be staffed by a person with only that job. I am putting a single
server file to manage this activity.
Its value is great but the work to follow-up with folk is where the pain hids.
