How do I print multiple pages on 1 sheet of A4 in Publisher 2002

Hi all,

This is something that I have not been able to figure out but I expect is
straight forward or impossible to do.

I have a small page size (4" x 6") and so two of these pages will fit neatly
onto an A4 sheet of paper. I can see how to print multiple COPIES of a page
onto a single sheet, but I can't figure out how to print multiple pages onto
a single sheet.

If I choose to only print a single copy per page, Publisher decides to plonk
the page in the middle on the A4 sheet. I can't see any option to get more
than one page printed side by side.

Any Ideas

You are mixing centimeters and inches --- that said, setup your printer for A4, in
page setup, custom, input 20.997cm width - 15.24cm height, this gives you 2 per page
portrait. If you change the height to 14.8cm you will have four per page. All these
copies will be alike.
If every page is to be different, setup up your page manually using the arrange menu.

Yes I know I'm mixing metric and imperial. Oh the joys of the British system!
Still publisher converts quite happily my imperial measurements to metric.
But this is not the issue.

You say to set up the page manually using the arrange method (ignoring the
comments about multiple copies as this is NOT what is required). Do you mean
that I have to physically set the page size to A4 in publisher, then set the
"Layout Guides" to effectively Cut up the page into 6x4 segments? If this is
the case then what a silly way to go about things. Please say that this has
been improved in 2003? All it would require is a simple checkbox in the page
set up properties so that multiple pages could be printed AS WELL AS multiple
copies.

I don't know how many times I have been asked how to do this so that why I
thought I'd try and do it myself.

Well, Chris, I cannot say I happily can mix my metric and Imperial.
Setup your publication as a booklet.

Hmm. Not sure why. Even MS have figured out that an inch is 2.54 cm's.
Typing in your page dimension in inches in the page setup (and having
previously set up Publisher to work in centimetre), Publisher simply converts
the inch measurement to metric (something like 10.16 cm x 15.??cm). If
publisher couldn't do this simple calculation, I would have serious questions
to ask. Thankfully it can – as can all other office packages. I don’t know
whee you are based, but here in the UK we have a very big mix of imperial and
metric. Most of the paper for printers is A4, yet the plastic pockets I am
using for display measure 6â€x 4†(also the same standard size of a photo).
So, we have to be fluent in both measurement and 99.9% of all computer
program are as well – as long as you specify what you are working in at the
time.
Setup your publication as a booklet.
Yes, this seems to be the only solution. However, this is awkward and non
intuitive. I don't really want a booklet and all the issues his causes. What
I want is individual DIFFERENT pages in the same publication that can be
printed on a single sheet. The problem with the booklet formation is that,
firstly it is difficult to figure out that this is what you need to do.
Secondly, Publisher insists on printing pages out of order. Whilst this is
not a major issue in the long term as the pages will be cut out, it is
disconcerting when keeping everything together uncut in the short term.

All for the lack of a simple option in the page setup dialogue. This should
be something MS should consider.

It's a shame that this is the only solution for what should be a simple
procedure.

If your printer driver has a feature to automatically do 2-up printing, you
could resize your pages to 12" x 8" and then get your printer to double the
pages up to get two different pages per sheet.

I agree that this (multiple different pages per sheet) is a sorely missing
feature in Publisher.

Many thanks for this. Unfortunately for me, this option is not available on
my driver. It may, however, be available for some of my other clients who
have queried me about this issue.

So MS....... Are you listening/reading??????
