How do I publish site to check functions without public access?

J

I want to publish my site and check all of the functions of my forms before
the public has access to the site. So the question is how?

Once published, will I edit my site the same way as I do now in the design
mode, after I have accessed my web host?

Re 1.
Why not create a folder say "testweb" and move all you code to it.
If all your links are relative, this should test Ok if you open it from
http://myweb.mydomain.com/testweb/index.html
(If index.html is not your default index file then use what it is.)
You can of course make "testweb" some complete garbage name e.g. "a3-s9g_pv"

When tested OK, move them to http://myweb.mydomain.com/

Re 2.
I would suggest editing your site locally (on your hard disk), and when you are happy with changes, publish to the web

If it's close to being ready why not just put it online? It's gonna take
weeks or even months for search engines to find you anyway.

If you're remote server has FP extensions installed and working you should
edit on your local copy then Publish to your remote server. With extensions
on the server you can also work on 'live' on the server, but it's safe
working locally and publishing up to the server.

Most recent versions of Windows come with IIS (Internet Information
Services), which is a web server. You may need to install it. After that,
you can set up your web site on your local machine as if it were on an
Internet web server, and test it that way.

Only the following desktop OS come with IIS:

Windows 2000 Pro
Windows XP Pro

Well, I tend to think of these as "most," Tom, but on reflection, this may
not be the case.

Oh, yeah, you left out the servers.

In fact, wouldn't it be more accurate to say:

Only the following desktop OS do NOT come with IIS:

Windows 2000 Home
Windows XP Home

There is no Windows 2000 Home ;-)

I don't count servers as desktop machines....

That's because technically, they're not. A desktop is not a server, a
server is not a desktop ;-)

Windows 2000 Home? Otherwise known as Windows Millennium which is not an
NT-based O/S, and probably wouldn't run IIS anyway.

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Windows 2000 for the desktop was called: Windows 2000 Professional.
