How do I receive but NOT send emails automatically?

I would like Outlook (Office 2002) to check for incoming mail automatically
but not send automatically at the same time.
Is there a way that Office can be set up to check for mail but leave
messages to be sent in my Outbox?

Uncheck the option to send mail. Tools->Options->Mail Setup->Send/Receive
settings.
