How do I resize a form field drop box so it is wider?

I am trying to create a form in Word. My form fields (mainly drop down boxes)
just look too thin and I would like to widen them for purely cosmetic
reasons. Any suggestions?

In the Properties dialog, type enough nonbreaking spaces
(Ctrl+Shift+spacebar) in the first entry to make the "empty" box as wide as
you want.
