How do I restore a document I typed after I hit the "No" button?

I typed out my document that I needed. I hit the close box and when the
screen popped up to ask if I wanted to save, I accidentally clicked the "No"
button instead of the "Yes" button. Is there any way I can restore what I
lost?

If you didn't save the document when you closed it, there is nothing to
recover.

ACK!!! That means about 4 hours of work I have to redo in under 3 hours.
Thanks for the info.

Four hours of work and you never thought to save once?

Why on earth did you not periodically save what you're working on?

I did the same thing. I had auto recovery set to auto save every 10 minutes. I've been working on an assignment for 5 hours. I thought I was closing another document so said no to the 'want to save option'. I closed my assignment. All my work is gone. I am devastated. For those who didn't know.....Auto recovery only works if the program is shut down "unexpectedly" I could just shoot myself!!!!... all that hard work, and now i have to start over. Microsoft really should make auto recovery work for 'shut down in error' also!

It does recover if the application shuts down in error, but this was not a
shut down error. You told the application not to save the file. The
application has no way of reading your mind to know whether you were serious
or not.

There is no autosave funtion built into Word (though see
http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm ). It relies on the user to
actually save the document. If you worked on a document for five hours
without saving once then you have no-one to blame but yourself. Get into the
habit of pressing CTRL+S each time you stop for thought.
