i have setup a new desktop, been in use for approx 2 weeks. i copied
the pst file from my old computer to this one but there are still some
emails on the old computer that do not show on the new. there are
also two sets of personal folders on the old computer. can i go to
the old computer and combine the emails/folders? can i then copy and
paste the pst file to the new computer without more duplication of
folders, contacts and calendar appts?

You can just copy the other PST (possibly an archive PST) to your new
machine then open it using the File menu > Open > Outlook Data File command.
You can then drag/drop any data you want to keep/use

am naming it archive.pst, i will open it with the new computer using
the instructions you gave. now will i have 2 sets of personal folders
that i will drag and drop from the old to the new? when i retrieve
the missing emails will i be able to delete the set of personal
folders that i was dragging from? thanks for the help...

Yes, you will. Just close it in Outlook, exit outlook and delete the PST
