How do I run a report with just past due tasks by resource?

I have been working with project and want to run a report for just past due
tasks by a specific date (tasks that should have have been finished by say
3/3/20006), and sort by resource. I have tried modifying several of the
standard reports, and exporting to Excel and Access and can't come up with a
clean/easy repeatable way to do this....this appears like a simple request am
I missing something simple?

You can add a column in the Gant chart - Baseline Start or Finish - then
filter on what you are looking for. You may also need to add Actual Start to
help filter.

Also go to View>Reports>Current Activities>Should Have Started or Slipping
Task. You may have to modify the filters to get what you want.

Create a custom View and Filter to show these tasks with the fields you want.
Then use the Print function. This is easily repeatable.
