How do I set up default tabs in Word?

How do I set-up permanent tab stops in Word so that I don't have to change
them everytime I have a new document. I tried going to Format Tabs and
entering them but it only works for that one document.

To make the change for all new documents, you have to set the default tabs
for the Normal style in the Normal.dot template. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm for
instructions (which depend on the version of Word you have). However, do pay
attention first to the discussion of why you might want to do this in a
specific template other than Normal.dot, and use that template for new
documents of that type.
