In the filter drop down, select Date Range... and you can specify the needed
dates.

The filters (on 'Start' or 'Finish' dates) allow me to to filter the
activities starting after one date or finishing before/after one date. But it
won't show the tasks in progress but started before or finishing after.
For example: I want to show only the activities in progress during
September. So I want to hide the activities finished before September or not
started in September. But I want to show one activite started in June (for
example) and finishing in September or after.

I hope you will understand my question. Tnaks in advance.

I tested your scenario prior to making my post. Using the filter on [Start]
and [Finish] excludes tasks you want to include. Instead, the Date Range
filter will do this for you.

On the Format toolbar is a drop down that says "All Tasks". Hit the drop
down and select "Date Range..." It will ask you:
Show Tasks That Start or Finish after: (enter a date -- 8/23/2007)
And Before: (enter a date -- 9/6/2007)

If any portion of any task lays within these dates it will show.
Specifically:
Starts 1/1/1974 ends 12/31/2030 passes through the window and shows
Starts 1/3/1973 end 8/20/2007 excluded as left of window
Starts 8/28/2007 ends 12/31/2007 shows -- it starts in the window
Starts 1/1/2007 ends 8/31/2007 shows -- it ends in the window
Starts 8/25/2007 ends 8/31/2007 shows -- it is entirely in the window
Starts 10/1/2007 ends 12/15/2007 --- excluded as future task

Try for yourself on a Project1.mpp and watch the behavior.

Hi Jim,
I have a follow-up inquiry on this, so using the filter you wrote below, it
will indeed highlight (eg Blue color) those line items that satisfy the
condition of the filter. But what if I want to print ONLY those highlighted
items that satisfy the condition (eg Blue color items), how to do it?
Currently project will just highlight those items you want but not hiding
those unwanted ones. In Excel it can be done (hiding those unwanted items
then printing them), but how about in MPP?
