I use Publisher 2000 and have the startup as you would like. This
may be the same or similar in 2007.

Tools
Options
Uncheck "Use catalog at startup."
OK

Hey Don...

Almost still the same )

Tools
Options
Uncheck "Show Publication Types when starting Publisher"
OK

If you are asking about the *Format Publication* taskbar, you can't rid yourself
of it. It is a tear-off, you can resize it to small and drag it to a less
intrusive area of your screen. Publisher will remember this setting and the task
pane will be minimize the next time you open the application.

task pane, even tho i have unticked all the right boxes. I am using
Publisher 2007.

You cannot rid yourself of the task pane. You can tear it off; minimize it;
drag it to a less obtrusive area of your screen. Publisher will remember
this setting the next time you open the program.
