How do I turn off reading layout permanently? (Word 2003)

My problem is this - whenever I open a word document that has been sent as an
attachment in Outlook, it always opens in reading layout. I go into
tools/options/general and uncheck the "allow staring in reading layout" box,
yet the next time I open an outlook word attachment, it opens in reading
layout. This is doing my head in!

I hope that someone can help!

Create (or add to) an autoopen macro in normal.dot with the following line

Options.AllowReadingMode = False
