how do I unlock a document to make changes or to start a new docu.

I saved a document last week and now I can't even start anew document due to
it being locked. I followed the directions through the "help" and it doesn't
work.

Is this the only document that is locked? If so, what happens if you click
on Tools | Unprotect Document?

Are all new and existing documents are locked for editing? If so, then you
are experiencing "reduced functionality mode" either because you did not
activate your Word/Office software, or because your trial version of Office
2003 has expired. What happens if you start Word and then click on Help |
Activate Product?
