How do I unlock a table cell so I can put a graphic in it?

I'm using a document that was preformatted and the cell where I want to put
my graphic won't let me put it there. Also, some sort of "snap to grid"
function is on and I want to be able to move more freely.

What exactly happens when you try to insert the picture? If your table has
fixed row height/column width then it won't expand to accommodate imported
pictures (check under the row/column sections in the Table>Table Properties
window). You can turn off the snapping to grid while sizing a picture by
holding down the ALT key as you drag the picture's handles.
