How do reminders work (what happens to an event if I hit"dismiss" on one exchange client)?

I have a basic question about how reminders work on multiple Exchange
clients. I have a few laptops and a desktop all of which (OS X
Panther/Tiger) sync to an Exchange server through Entourage 2004. My
Exchange calendar has lots of events on it with reminders that pop up
through the notification utility.
I could have sworn that previously, "dismissing" a reminder only took
effect on the computer on which I did it. That is, if I dismiss a reminder
on one laptop, it still stays as an active reminder on all other machines.
Is this not the case? Today I "dismissed all" on one laptop, thinking I'll
get to everything on my desktop, and when I got there, all the reminders
were gone (I know they were there this morning). Dismissing them on one
client seems to have set the "reminder" to "none" on all of the events on
the Exchange server.
Which is the right behavior - how does it work? And is there any way for
me to find which events this happened to? I want to do a search for all
events with no reminder. Is that possible?
