I saw live with my own eyes a Verizon tech, typing in new smtp fields in my Entourage email accounts. How do they get in their? It's on my hardrive no?

This should not be possible. Did you take a screenshot? I would loudly
complain.

Please start from the beginning and tell the complete story of what
happened.

It is.
I can think of a couple fo options:
You're using iChat and used Screen Sharing, or you gave them your admin
password and Screen Sharing is enabled in the System Preferences and he
used it to control your screen.

NO,
I had a live Verizon tech in my house. He was sitting at my computer on the phone with another Verizon tech.
I was standing behind him and saw with my own eyes the remote Verizon tech. typing in new smtp fields for all my email accounts -- even ones that were not Verizons -- .......to help me send out.
I gave nothing admin.
They only had my Verizon info.

It's possible the guy sitting at your computer enabled something in the
course of doing his work. You might want to change your computer
password.

When you started this thread you did not indicate there was a tech at your
house. A huge piece of info to leave out. If you were so concerned when you
saw this, did you ask him what was going on?

Please the next time you ask a question, give all the details. We volunteer
our time and when we work of incomplete information it wastes everyone's
time.

Diane, what is obvious info for you is not obvios the masses like me.
Geez......

The tech does not know any of my passwords and did not fool around with anything, and was a really professional cool guy.

It was only afteroon of that day that it hit me that -- how do they do that?

I don't have any worries about anything. But how did they do that?

He probably used a common tool such as WebEx <http://www.webex.com>. We
use tools like this at work all the time for providing support to end-users.

Services like this require that someone be in front of the computer,
such as your Verizon technician, to allow someone outside to connect.
The technician would visit a website running special software and the
remote technician would do the same. The software provided by the
website allows for sharing screens.

However, I would be sure to ask the technician next time about the
method he used just to be sure you understand whether or not you are at
risk after he has left.

You're probably not at risk, though.

Thanks Bill,
actually today, I was sharing with a Verizon tech. His cursor was moving around etc on the desktop...

But what was different was that today, it was sharing a webpage. whereas before they were altering e mail accounts on hard drive, no?
I'm not worried one iota, just fascinated by it.
You think is was just same technonogy?
