how protect image from unauthorized copy

D

Daylily Garden

How do I protect my digital jpg images on my website from someone copying
them for personal use? I do not have a legal copyright yet but they are
images I took myself. I know how to protect a word document, but can't find
help for images. Thanks.

The only way you can protect them is by not putting them online. *Any* image
that can be seen can be copied. You might be able to slow some people down
but if they want your image, it can be had in two clicks.

BTW - you HAVE the copyright if you created that image. Just because you
haven't registered it with anyone doesn't mean you don't own your own work.

Thank you for your help. I have seen websites where a right click on an
image is disabled so no copy or save function can be performed. Example:
http://www.waltersgardens.com This is what I need to accomplish for my
online photos. My website is http://www.DaylilyAndHostaGardenS.com Any
further suggestions concerning disabling right click? Thanks again.

No Right Click scripts protect nothing, all they do is piss people off that
want to right-click on your pages for other reasons...like creating a
bookmark.

ANYTHING that can be seen on the web can be (and already is) gotten by your
viewer's computer. Try this....browse your temp internet cache with an image
viewer and you see why protecting images is useless. The best you can do is
use small low res. images and/or watermark them.

Like I said, that doesn't stop anyone. I will not post how to circumvent it
(there are still a few people who don't already know) but it's literally two
clicks. It's not any slower than a right click and copy or whatever. If you
*really* want to try the right click thing, I assume the directions can be
found on someone's website. Try Google.

Lower the resolution or use a watermark. Or to prevent it completely, don't
post your photos online.

(I know this sounds harsh but it really isn't. I'm just trying to make you
aware of the fact that there are no sure fire ways to keep people from
stealing your images if they really want them.)
