Hi Ian,
It's possible that the handwriting software with the tablet conflicts with the Office 2003 handwriting feature (discontinued in
Office under Office 2007). The feature is also language setting sensitive.
If you check the language bar settings in the Windows control panel what tools are listed for your default keyboard/language?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Doug. I did first read that the feature
was for use with a tablet PC, but then, when I read the instructions, it
specifically stated a graphics tablet like a Wacom, which is what I have. I
also was advised by the tech department at Wacom that I could use this
feature; they sent instructions for working with the handwriting toolbar,
showing it in a screenshot.
But I don't have it showing on my Word screen, so I researched the Microsoft
Help which explained how to activate the feature. As I said, I followed the
instructions carefully, several times, but it still is not activated. Maybe
it's the case, but it doesn't say that it is only capable of being activated
on a tablet PC.
Thanks,
