How to change working time on Project Server

A

Android

We're using project Server 2002

In our implementation, Project Server treats 1 day as 8 hours of work, and
Project Professional treats it as 7.5 hours or work. This means if a team
member creates a 1 day task via PWA, it shows up in the schedule at starting
at 8.30AM on start date and ending at 9AM on the next day.

I have not been able to find how to change the working time on PWA to 7.5
hours. How do I do this??

There are 2 things you need to ensure - that the base calendar you use for
projects and resources has default start time, end time and hours per day in
"Synch" with the settings in the Tools> Options> Calendar dialogue box. A
lot of people do half the job by editing the Standard Calendar in the
Enterprise Global file to reflect "their" default working hours but do not
make corresponding adjustments to the settings in the Tools> Options>
Calendar dialogue box.

You may also want to ensure that all users who have rights to create
projects and save them to your server change the settings in their "local"
Global.MPT file to match the defined settings you have in the Enterprise
Global File.

Be aware that some existing projects may have durations that look a bit
"Screwy" - this will be due to you changing things part way through. All
future projects should behave consistently.

One of the BIG advantages for me of Project Pro & Server is the ability the
centrally define certain settings/definitions and through Templates even
processes and then promote them consistently across the Enterprise to all
managers and projects.

Hello Domenic,

The calendars do match.

How do you get to "local" Global.MPT file to make sure it matches the
settings in the Enterprise Global file?

Is the calendar assigned to your Resource's, set to 8hr/day?

Are your server Resource's working calendar's set to 8hrs/day? Their
working calendars could be based on a calendar that's 8hrs/day, or could
have been manually set to 8hrs/day. The task will default to the resource's
calendar (unless "Ignore Resource Calendar" is turned off for every task -
depending on the issue, fixing the calendars is probably a better solution)

FYI: If you change the Working Calendars, you could change dates in other
schedules. If you change a task's "Ignore Resource Calendar" setting, you
could mess up your task dates too...
