How to control page breaks in Onenote

Richard

Love the program, more after MS fiddles with it a bit more for the things we
all want ;-) but please tell me there is a way to print things that come out
as nice as on screen. Screen clips are off page and no apparent control of
page breaks makes a mess of it. Tried to print to PDF and got huge sections
of blank paper due to this? Page setup is set to Auto and when you select
Letter dont know what it does. Obvously we expect it to work like Office
apps but?????

Hmmm...should come out more or less as it appears on screen. Do you have
big blank sections in your notes? What if you drag them closer together?

When you choose a size other than Auto you get a fixed amount of white space
exactly matching one sheet of paper. We tried to make printign work well
with auto-sized paper, but if you make your notes too wide (which can happen
if you have a big screen), then 2 pages get printed for every page in
onenote - the main one and another to capture what dribbles off to the
right. That part we tried to help with by automatically zooming your
printout to try to fit it on a single page wide if it is too wide to fit,
but we can only zoom so much.

Interesting - I too have this issue. Only been using it two days & love the
program, but am finding porinting frustrating enough to put me off it! I have
tried using both Auto & A4 size to print meeting notes that go on for more
than one standard A4 page, but it seems to duplicate the bottom couple of
lines onto the top of the next page, or if the printing edges are too wide,
lose the bottom couple of lines. I can deal with the printer border issue,
but not the duplication.

Also, I have downloaded some of the templates, and tried two of them. They
both have Verdana 10 as the standard font size, yet on printing them both
out, one is decidely larger text than the other.

Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated as it is somewhat
frustrating at the moment.

Cheers!

Things being cut off or doubled is a problem that we are looking into.

Things being smaller is due to the content on the page (or possibly just one
of the containers) being somewhat larger than what fits on the paper size
you have - so we have to zoom to, say 90%, which makes things look about 10%
smaller than what you expect from the screen presentation. The alternatvive
is to either narrow the width of what you have, or turn off the feature that
tries to fit one page width (File/Print preview/scale content to paper
width), but this means you'll get two pages side by side for what you
consider a single page (as often happens in Excel if you have a lot of
columns).

Ahh! Thanks for that. At least I know I'm not going mad! I thought it must be
something I was doing. For what it's worth, I am very interested in seeing a
fix for this problem. To me, it is crucial, as it comes across as
unprofessional if I was to give a printed document with duplicated or missing
information (even though it may only be one line!). However, I will look out
for an update soon (he said, hopeful as ever!)
Thanks also for the info on the scaling issue when printing out. I think I
see what you are saying and that does make sense to me. I will look at the
design & layout of the page to see if that affects it.

Thanks again for your help.

Best regards,

Haha! I thought that was a feature, not a bug! It is kind of cute to that
when something has to be cut in half, there's a bit of context to pick up
where you left off in the bottom half... but it would be nice to be able to
control that as a user, not have it dictated from on high. ;)

I just thought I would throw in my $0.02 about page breaks, though.
I compose a lot of my homework assignments in OneNote, in order to take
advantage of the easy combination of ink and text, the centralized location
(HW stays together with my class notes and questions), and the freeform page
editing. However, when it comes time to print out, I often run into trouble.
Pagination is just dreadful to work out. I have to manually insert newlines
and spaces to keep things logically grouped on individual pages, and it's
hard to get the page to be efficiently filled in the lateral direction. An
option to view page breaks in the actual document or to insert manual page
breaks would be a great help. Also, a magnifier or full-screen option in
print preview would be rather convenient.

I'm curious though... I never can seem to get my text to be centered on the
page and take up the full margin-to-margin width. It's always off to the
left, with a bit of wasted space on the right, no matter what I try. Any
ideas there?

Thanks.
