how to De-select containers - stays selected

I'm either the only person this happens to or the only person it bugs.
Whenever I resize, copy/paste, or move my containers, it remains selected
(highlighted in gray) when I return to the page ... *even though* I have
deselected it at the time by clicking outside the container area.
No other Microsoft product does this - why is OneNote so "sticky"? I've
looked through the Options and can't find any defaults to address this issue.

Is my version haunted, or what??

Your not the only one it bugs. Mine does the same thing often. The real
bummer is that if you open a page where this has happened and aren't paying
attention you can easily delete the highlighted text or container.

OneNote will generally try to save your last location on the page, or
the text that was selected. However, this will only be saved if there
are some other changes being made to the page (so that just loading a
page and scrolling around for a bit does not trigger another change to
the file). You can trick this algorithm by making another "non-change"
(such as add and delete a space (don't use undo though)) to force a save
after moving the scroll position or selection.

Ilya,

Once again, thank you for helping solve a problem and offering a solution.
Third time in two days that you've offered timely and on target solutions.
Thanks!

The OneNote Cleaner Powertoy is suppose to do this for you without manually
editing each page. This is from the description of the tool.

1.) Reset all navigation points to the top most page of each section, and
the top most section of each section group.

2.) Removes selection from content so the cursor will be in the title box

It doesn't work on my computer but it might work for you??

Mike,

Thanks for pointing out the Powertoy. I tried it and will probably use it
for awhile but I don't get consistent results but seems better than what I
was seeing before. However it never worked with the unfiled notes, always
generating an error.

Thank you, Ilya, that makes sense.

Mike, I haven't tried the Cleaner but may try that as well.
