How to edit without typing over other sentences?

I am trying to type a paper and I want to be able to go back and add word or
lines without tping over what I have already written. I want the text to
adjust itself. Please help me. Melissa I am using Word.

Press the Insert key once to switch from Overtype mode to Insert mode.
Then click where you want to add words or lines and start typing.

If you look at the bottom of your MS Word window, you'll see a row of lightly
or darkened shaded 3 letter objects (REC, TRK, EXT and OVR). This is your
status bar. If the OVR is DARK, press your INSERT (or INS) key on your
keyboard. You can also double left-click the darkened OVR to turn off
Overtype.
