Unlike MS Word, no "print to file" checkbox appears from the print dialog box.

Not sure why you would want to do this, but it is possible. It's
functionality provided by the operating system.

On the Windows control panel applet, setup a new printer with the wizard
Pick the output port to be FILE: Then when you "print" to that
"printer" it will send the output stream to a file instead of a printer.

If you're trying to do this so you can send readable files to other users,
your best bet is to print to a PDF generator like Adobe Acrobat or one of
the freeware/shareware PDF writers.
