how to import lost email messages?

Somehow, all of my inbox messages were deleted the other
night. I heard that maybe Microsoft stores them on the
hard drive somewhere and I could import them back into my
inbox.

Does anyone know where the mail is stored on the hard
drive and how I could import them back in?

What version of Outlook and what OS would be nice to know.
