You can get the PowerPoint to update the link on each start-up of the
presentation. Will this be enough, or do you need real-time updating?
For instance, is this to change a presentation that you have running? If
so, you will want to look at Kurt's programs. If you want to have a
presentation ready with the most up to date numbers (as of the start of
the presentation) then perhaps a linked txt file will be enough.
On the slide where you want the text, select the sequence:
Insert -> Object... -> {select } Create From File -> Browse -> [Navigate
to the txt file and select] -> Check the link box -> OK.
