Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) I want to give my columns names without using a row number. How do I do this? And, where do I find "Ledger Sheet" under the "Name" box in the formatting palette?

thx

You can name a column by clicking on the column hearer letter to select
the column, and then typing the name into address box at the left of the
formula bar, or, choosing Insert-name-Define and typing in a name.

I don't understand your next question about the ledger sheets. Are you
trying to use a ledger sheet? If so, click on it in the ribbon bar and
select the sheet type.

thx for your reply - when i try to highlight the column header letter - it highlights the whole column except for the first entry in row 1. so when i type in a name in the formula bar, it replaces the first entry with the name i want to give the column.

how do i highlight the column header letter only?

well, my son just told me that the name of a column has to have its own row and row number. problem solved and thanks for your help.

That's correct -- the default A, B, C... Column Headings & 1, 2, 3... Row
Headings cannot be customized. Just type your 'captions' into the row where
you want the list to begin.
