How are you trying to start those macros?

Tools > Macros or ALT-F8 will not work.

But, a toolbar button or a keyboard shortcut will invoke a macro even if the
document is protected.

Do you want the button on a new toolbar (that culd potentially contain only
one button) or simnplay ad the butyton to an existing toolbar?

If the latter:

Tools > Customize... >Commands tab.
There, in the list on the left ("Categories"), select "Macros".
Then, make sure that you selected your template/document in the "Save in"
drop down at the bottom of the dialog. Finally, locate your macro in the
list on the right ("Commands").

Once you have located your macro select it and drag it to the toolbar where
you want it. This will create a button with a caption resembling:
"MyProjectName.MyModuleName.MyMacroName". Normally we want to change that.
Right click the button to access all the properties you can manipulate. You
can even copy paste from small icon on the page of the document or another
button face if you want a picture on the button face.

Ouch!
Looks as though I was typing on a microscopic keyboard or I was on
something!

Sadly, it was neither! I am just a terrible typist!

To my defence, I do not use a spell checker because I type as often in
English as I do in French... It is a pain to always have to change the
dictionary before typing a message or before starting a session. So I
normally read through my texts more than once to correct the typos and
various other mistakes.. I guess I forgot in that case!

You need to put the macros on a custom toolbar (and make sure they will work
in a protected document).
