how to use scanpst?

I have scanned a unrecognizable pst file, but now the file is 37MB (before 41MB, but I have the original save), and a new homonymic file .bak has been created of 41MB (I suppose other backup) . When you open Outlook you can find a recovery folders with nothing, but it link to the folder of 37MB , anyone know where are the data
