I've seen this asked before and have always wondered...why?

I only have the free serif...and the olllldddd Serif 3...the full version
uhm..a little dated I guess. Welp even as we speak Natasha just emailed and
said PP11 is on sale with two extra specials for only 59.95...if she calls
me and breathes heavy over the phone maybe I'll buy it :) Wow..even
includes a 4 port USB 2 mini hub...sheesh...if I wait another day maybe
they'll send the whole package for free.

But why, please oh please tell me why you'd want to insert a pdf into pub.

I guess you could take the long way and convert it to a usable image file in
PS or something.

| Rob,
|
| Because.
|
| Try Serif PP11 if this is a must-have feature.

Rob,

The Lovely Natasha sends me offers all the time. I seldom take advantage
of them, though I did get Abbyy Fine Reader for $9.95 once.

I publish a newspaper and get lots of ads in a pdf format. It's nice to
be able to drop them into a file.

Go to Insert > Object > Create from File > and browse to your PDF. Publisher
will display the PDF page.

Hey...I just found Serif 2.0 !

Why do you need to drop the pdf into pub though? Do you then create an
layout around the pdf?

Publisher will display the PDF page.

Depending on your version of Acrobat Reader and Publisher, I believe.

I've done it but apparently not everyone's system will allow them to do so.
I have no idea why or why not. All I know is that my 5½ year old computer is
very, very good to me. I see many posts from people running the same
programs I have and they experience all kinds of problems but my baby just
keeps chugging along. Good girl! :)

(Sometimes I have a .pdf file and need to insert it in my newsletter.)

If you are creating a newspaper in Publisher, and someone sends you an
advertisement to include on one page in PDF format, you will want to drop
the PDF file onto the Publisher page in the appropriate place.

I tried it as insert object...with one file it inserted fine and was
resizable, on another file it refused to display except as a pdf icon.

That's way cool.

Question: the inserted PDF object, is it a bitmap version of the PDF
file or a vector object?

AFAIK, it's not really either one. I believe it's essentially an instance of
Adobe Reader open within Publisher. I could be wrong though. I believe that
is how all OLE objects work. If you didn't have Acrobat/Reader on your
system, I don't think you will see a PDF when you attempt to OLE because the
Adobe app is added to the OLE dialog when it's installed.
