i can't edit a field in word 2000

I am trying to edit a field in word 2000, when i right click on the field I
don't even have the option to edit. The field is in my header and I need it
to point to the heading in each section and not just the first section.

Try pressing Alt+F9 to toggle the field code so that you can edit the field
directly.

Open the header, then edit as indicated by Suzanne - or replace the field.
It sounds like you want a Styleref field!
