I need a new symbol: How do I put a dot underneath the letter s?

I need to transliterate from Arabic and don't have the letters I need in my
symbols. I need the letters s, d, t, and z with a dot underneath. How can I
create such new symbols?

Thank you!!

Hi amira,

Of course you can always search the internet for fonts that suit you.
An alternative is using ADVANCE fields (Insert | Field...), with which you
can combine characters.
For example:
Z{ ADVANCE \l 6 \d 5 }.{ ADVANCE \r 6 \u 5 }
places . under Z.

Copy your assembled characters to AutoText-fragments in your Normal.dot and
assign them to key-combinations.

Good luck,
Cooz

The Cardo font (free download from the medieval typography crowd) has them.
Or you can use an EQ field to superimpose any two characters: {EQ \o (t,.) }
You'll need to lower the dot or raise the letter, or both, (Format > Font >
Character position) to make it work. Have created the field, set it up as a
AutoText so you can use it repeatedly.

The characters you want are present in Arial Unicode as 1E0D (d), 1E63 (s),
1E6D (t), and 1E93 (z). Uppercase versions are also available. If you don't
want to use a different font, you can create these characters by combining
the letter with a period (full stop) or "middle dot" (00B7) using the EQ \o
field (see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Overbar.htm). There is a
"combining dot below" in "(normal text)" at 0323, but it is very small and
doesn't seem to center very well.

Hi Cooz,

Thanks so much for your response. I tried what you suggested but when the
letters appears with the dot, it says "ADVANCE" after the letter in the text.
How can I get rid of the "ADVANCE" and just have the letter?

Thank you very much.
I appreciate your help.
