I want to use powerpoint to make slides for coutdowns. I do not have any clue
at how to go about this. Can someone get back to me please?

Hi Zach,

You will need to rethink the technique for showing a count-down. Nothing
plays over a video, or to restate it: videos always play on top when played
from PowerPoint.

If it is possible, use a video editing program to place the countdown timer
display into the video itself.

Or, Use an area not covered by the video to show the countdown time (simple
overlapping shape entrances will do fine for this.)

In PowerPoint, you can NOT put anything on top of the video. The video will
always play in the foreground.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but i have done similar to this by
importing the Video into Macromedia Flash, adding controls for it and a
countd down timer and then adding it into PowerPoint as an object? This is
fairly simple providing you can get access to Flash.
