Hellp!

I've got Entourage X for Mac on my powerbook G4. One day it was working fine, the next day when I came to collect my emails as it was opening it up I got a message saying "the application Entourage has unexpectedly quit", which it did. I opened it again and got a message "the action cannot be completed. Mail error". I can actually open it, move around in my inbox, sent items etc, and can also access the internet. I've also just found (after a morning of TEARING MY HAIR) that I can even send and receive mail by using the Entourage tool bar at the very top of my screen and my keypad keys, but what I can't do is use the reply, forward, delete etc buttons as normal. They aren't grey, they look normal, they flash when I click on them, but nothing happens.

I can't get phone help as X for Mac is no longer supported by phone, so I've gone to the Microsoft support website and found an article which seems to be talking about exactly my problem. This advises me to first to try running a "typical rebuild of identity" by holding down the option key, double clicking the Entourage X icon, clicking typical rebuild, clicking ok. But I have no option key! I gather from an apple forum that this should be two keys left from the spacebar, with alt at the top (mine does say alt on it but doesn't say option on it - none of my keys do.) I've tried holding this key down and double clicking the icon but all it does is open entourage. Try as I might I can't find a box that says typical rebuild in it.

Any ideas, before I'm completely bald?

Thanks very much and sorry to go on so long....if I can't sort it I guess I just carry on using my email but the long winded way I've just found, but think I should try to sort this if I can....

What version of Entourage and what OS are you using? The latest version of
Entourage X is 10.1.9.

One day it was working fine,
the next day when I came to collect my emails as it was opening it up I got a
message saying "the application Entourage has unexpectedly quit", which it
did.

See this for help with unexpected quits:

I opened it again and got a message "the action cannot be completed. Mail
error". I can actually open it, move around in my inbox, sent items etc, and
can also access the internet. I've also just found (after a morning of TEARING

Sounds like either your system files are corrupted, or your HD could be full
and causing problems. How much free space do you have. Use the Activity
Monitor in Utilities folder to find info.

You can update to Office 2008 with the Home & Student version for approx
$130 at Amazon. Office X is End of Life software. Support for Entourage X
ended January 9, 2007. It is not Daylight Saving Time compliant now. The
change is in a week, then all of your emails are going to be dated
incorrectly.

Thanks v much, that'll give me something to go at...and I guess more tearing of hair...re your questions about what I am using, am on OS X panther 10.3 and entourage version 10.1.4. Re whether there's any space left, I couldn't find an activity monitor in my utilities folder but when I clicked on the hard drive icon it told me I had 67.92 GB available.

Will have a good look at the help pages you sent. Maybe is going to be best to update.

Thank again.

Apple doesn't make it easy to search for old software, but you should be
able to tell from Software Update what you need to get. I recommend getting
the combo updater instead of using the incremental updater you will get from
Software Update. I think it might be this:

Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9

<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html>

It's always important to keep updated. Updates contain fixes.
I couldn't find an activity monitor in my utilities folder

Seems the name was changed. Look for something similar. One of the problems
when you run old software is the people, like me, that can help forget the
names and tips associated with the older software.
