I would like to add say 30 task to Project Server through PWA ....

Hello All,

We have been testing Project Server 2007 for a specific application, we
would like to have a PM setup a general project, have an operations manager
approve and publish the project to the PS server, then have various techs add
tasks to the project as it moves along. Ideally we would have 6 task
templates the techs could pick from and add any number of specific task the
project via PWA and not give them access via project pro. Mainly because we
may have multiple people working on the same project at the same time.

PWA allows for generic task adding, one at a time. There also seem to be a
one way relationship; add tasks via PWA and they do not show up when you
check the project out using Project Pro 2007. Is this true or do we just not
have this setup correctly?

Here are my questions:

1. Is there a tool (web part) that would allow us to use PWA to setup
multiple task templates that would then publish to the project and then have
it also be seen in Project Pro when needed?

1.a Is this even possible through custom development?
1.b would this be a large undertaking?

We are trying to access weather develop on project server or go another
route. Our scheduling meets my not fit the logic driving project server.

Thanks in advance

Sami

Sami:

Generally speaking, you need Project Pro to directly manipulate the WBS in a
project stored in Project Server. The system already handles templates quite
nicely, but it sounds as though you'd also like to have work flow associated
with this process. Given that Project Server is a SharePoint applicaiton, it
inherently supports workflow, however you do have to do some development
work as you surmized. Project Server is an ideal platform for developing a
solution like you want to create, however not everything you want to do is
"out of box" functionality. One can only estimate the size of the
undertaking with a good understanding of your requirements.
