IF function

I'm using the IF function so that excel auntomatically
inputs the item code by looking at the item name. I know
how to write the basic formula. But what I'm looking to
do, is put the formula in cell H5 for example, and have
the outcome put in cell I5. This may sound like a strange
thing to do, but there is a very valid reason for doing
this. Is this possible and if so, how!

Not possible. A formula cannot "put" a value in any cell
other than the cell it's in.
