Images are not visible in page layout view in Publisher 2003

When inserting Clip Art image or Word Art into Publisher 2003, only the
bounding box shows, not the image. The image does appear in the Print
Preview mode, but not in the design layout mode, which makes it difficult at
best to design a page. This was just installed on the computer through the
installation of MS Office Professional Edition on a Windows XP system. Any
help would be appreciated.
