Images will not display

I have an .ASP page that generates HTML. The HTML
generated has a image tag that links to an image on the
site. I change the content type of the page
to "application/vnd-ms excel", this allows me to view the
page as an Excel spreadsheet within my browser or save the
spreadsheet to my desktop. If I use Excel 2000/XP the
image displays fine. If I'm using Excel 97, I cannot see
the image. Any clue to what's going on here?
