import/export data

I run Outlook 2000 in my desktop (windows XP) and a laptop
(windows 98). I want to have all the Outlook data in the
desktop copied to the laptop. I ran the export data option
and then I tried to copy the backup.pst file to a cd so I
could import the data in the laptop. Windows will not let
me copy the file. Since the 2 computers are in a network,
I tried to import the .pst file through the network. Now I
have all my .pst data in the laptop but it only shows up
if the desktop is on. What to I do now? I tried many
things. Nothing works. Help.

Stop trying import and export.
Just copy the PST file you want to back up and open it on the other
installation.
What do you mean "Windows will not let you copy the file?" Of course it
will. If not, how is it stopping you?

When I try to copy the outlook.pst or the backpup.pst
files a windows message says "windows encountered a
problem while copying the file". It doesn't say anything
else, except gives me the option to retry but it takes me
back to the same message. I looked at the properties of
the file and I don't see anything in it that would
prohibit me of copying the file. What else should I look?
By the way the size of the file is about 70,000KB.
Thanks for the kokua (help).

Make sure Outlook hasn't kept a lock on the files. Reboot before you try to
copy them.
