Importing an Excel file into Outlook 2000 contacts

Hi all,
I have exported my contacts list from QuickBooks pro to a
tab delineated text file and tried, unsuccessfully, to
import it into Outlook 2000. Then I successfully imported
it into Excel and saved it as an Excel file. I then tried
to import it into Outlook 2000. Part way through Outlook
pops up an error message and has to shut down. I then
uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2000 and received the
same result.
Anyone have any ideas?
