importing documents into project

It's been a long time since I have used project. How do I take a word
document or e-mail and tie it to an event in project

Hi ncoates,

You may insert a hyperlink to the word file or the saved e-mail message.
(Insert > Hyperlink).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

You can insert the file by selecting the task, opening the notes tab, and
then using the Insert Object button. just a word of caution, if you were ever
to send the .mpp file to a customer then they would also get the documents

I like the hyperlink idea from Julie, however I assume that means that
documents have to stay in the same place and can't be moved around by people!

Hi Julian,

Yes. The hyperlink points to the specific file path instead of having the
document embedded in the project file like Insert Object. With hyperlinks,
if the file is moved or someone adds a hyperlink to a file on their local
drive and the project file is emailed or stored on a network drive, the
hyperlink won't work.

The downside that I have seen with the Insert Objects that Adobe Files don't
display the icon in the Notes field -- just the text "Acrobat Document".
The object still works, but some find the lack of icon troublesome.

Julie - I have the Adobe icon plus the "Acrobat Document" text. Have I
managed to do something clever?

Hi Julian,

Well, if you have, I wish you'd share it with me! :)
Using MSP 2003 Professional with SP-2 and Adobe Reader 7.0 all I get is
either the name of the file (if I choose Link) or "Acrobat Document if I
don't. I have tried messing about with the icon -- still no joy.

I even tried it with MSP 2002 Professional with SP1 same result ;-(

Do share your secret!

I use project pro 2003 sp1, and Adobe 5.0. Maybe a case of the older the
technology the better. If I find anything else out I will let you know

Thanks so much Julian.

Your post prompted me to try changing the registered file type in XP to
point to Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (not reader). Sadly, still no joy.

Thanks for your diligence. If you do come across another piece of
information, please do post to the newsgroup. I know this has been a
question off and on by several folks for awhile.
