Importing excel spread sheet as a new project

What do I need to do to map the information correctley.

I keep getting errors: the source workshaeet name is required "It is
selected"
You can not create a map with duplicate table name

Or I will get nothing into the project.

I created a spread sheet with only 2 coulumn, and gave a name to the
worksheet and mapped it to project, but still could not get the information.

I'm new project user and any suggestion will be apprciated.

Sal,
First of all, what information exactly does your spreadsheet show? Two
columns isn't very much data to create a meaningful schedule in Project.
For example, a very basic spreadsheet should contain a column for the
task name, another for the estimated task duration, another for either
the task start date or better still a column for task dependencies.
Additional columns might include a list of names (i.e. resources who
will be working on each task, and the estimated number of hours those
resources are expected to work on the task.

Once the above data is in the spreadsheet, (and I might add here that it
would be a whole lot easier to simply enter the data directly into
Project and skip the Excel "middleman"), the data can be imported into
Project by going to File/Open and selecting "Files of type:" (at the
bottom of the Open window) as "Microsoft Excel Workbook". That will
bring up the import wizard. From there it is a matter of going through
the steps in the wizard.

Just for reference, since you are new to Project, I suggest you go to
our MVP website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/links.htm
and take a look at the link for fellow MVP, Mike Glen's tutorials on
Project lessons and techniques.
