Includetext Filename paths

Andy

In a template I have inserted an INCLUDETEXT field which
refers to a simple file. I am using a notebook computer
so that sometimes I am connected to a network with a path
to Workgroup Templates and sometimes I must use local
templates. I am designing templates when I am not
connected to the network. I can copy the source document
into both my local templates folder and the workgroup
templates folder. The problem is that I want to avoid
having to put the entire path to the templates folder in
the INCLUDETEXT field so that I don't have to modify the
template everytime I work on it on my machine and copy it
into the workgroup templates folder. Is there any folder
in which I can put a copy of the sopurce document and know
that Word will be able to find the document without having
to include the full path? I am using Word 2002.

Thanks.
Andy

No.

Best you could do would be to put the path information in a
custom document property (File/Properties/Custom), then it's
easier to change (and only needs to be changed once for the
entire document). Insert a DocProperty field into the
IncludeText fields. Note that you need only single
backslashes for the path in the property.

To make this more "transparent" you could use AutoOpen and/or
AutoNew macros that get the path from which the document /
template is opening and write that to the document property.

Hi Andy,

If your template is being created in the same folder as
the images, you can omit the path. Then you'd only need to
add (instead of changing) the path when moving to the
network.

Alternatively, you could use a FILLIN field to solicit the
path, though a combination of ASK and REF fields might be
better if the same path is used for multiple instances.

Beyond that, take a look at:
http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?
Number=261488
where you can download a Word file with a utility for
updating INCLUDETEXT, INCLUDEPICTURE etc fields.

Cheers
