Incorrect Finish Dates

Hi,

I've been given a Project Plan which is displaying what I think is an
incorrect Finish Date.

If I enter a new task of 1 day starting on Mon 09/10/06 09:00 the
finish date displays Tue 10/10/06 09:00? Other project plans I have
created in the past show the finish date as Mon 09/10/06 17:00.

I have compared the following in the two project plans and they are the
same:
- Options/Calendar tab and all dates & settings
- Working time (start and finish times)

Is there another setting I have overlooked?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Steve,
Are there any resources assigned to the task? If so, check their working
time to make sure it is compatible with the task time.

To get a better idea of what may be going on, take a look at one of the
Usage views (Resource or Task). Set the timescale for hours or perhaps
even minutes and see what it shows.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Your times make me believe that you have a day defined as 8 hours, but the
working time starts at 0800. Remember, if you change the defaults, you need
to retype the duratione before they take effect.

In addition to what John and Mike have stated, also please check
whether any actuals have been recorded against this task. I had a
similar situation, when certain tasks after being updated with the
weekly hours, their duration (as shown in the Duration column) will be
one number and if I took a look at the start date and the finish date,
the number of days between these 2 dates would be different. So my
suggestion would be check if any actual hours are showing up against
the task(s).

aaren,
You do realize that once an actual start and/or finish date is entered
for a task that the scheduled start and finish will change to agree with
the actual values. So yes, entering actuals may change the duration. If
the start and finish did NOT change then calculation is probably set for
manual.
