Index Catalog Problem

J

Jeff Sullivan

When I search for a shape, I get the following message:

1. Visio Local Shapes - The Visio Indexing Service Catalog does not exist.
Please repair the Visio installation.

The service is runnince, and I can conduct the search successfully using the
MMC interface. I have done a reinstall, and detect and repair, but neither of
those have helped.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

If the catalog doesn't exist, you should be able to re-create it manually
(although a detect and repair from the help menu should do this). First
check if the catalog exists in the MMC:

1) Right-click the My Computer icon, either on the desktop or in the Start
menu, and then click Manage.
2) In the Computer Management window (aka the MMC or Microsoft Management
Console), expand the Services and Applications node.
3) Expand the Indexing Service node.

If the catalog doesn't exist, these steps will add it:

5) Select the Indexing Service node.
6) In the right-hand pane, right-click and select New | Catalog.
7) Enter "Visio" for the name.
8) For the path, enter "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\VISIO\" adjusting the drive letter and any of the folder
names as necessary.
9) Click OK.

If the catalog does already exist, the catalog itself may have been stopped
even though the service as a whole is running. To determine if this is the
case, and start the catalog if it is:

1) In the MMC, select the Indexing Service node on the left.
2) In the right pane, select the Visio catalog.
3) Examine the toolbar. There should be buttons for start, stop, and pause
with the standard icons representing each. If the start button is enabled,
it means the catalog has been stopped.
4) If this is the case, click the start button to start the Visio catalog.
